Wellness as a design principle was woven into virtually every aspect of the major repositioning of Friendship Village of Schaumburg, beginning with conducting the first ever study to assess how wellness was incorporated into Life Plan Communities throughout the country as a basis for evidence-based design.
The repositioning of the 800-resident community focused on creating a physical environment that provides choices and flexibility to maximize resident's independence, while creating a resident-centered environment with an upscale/contemporary style using natural materials and light to engender a sense of comfort and wellbeing. The phased development began with 28 garden homes, 170 apartments in a six-story lakeshore building above a lifestyle wellness center and indoor aquatic center, 70 apartments, and 95 health care suites in a connecting seven-story courtyard building.
The extensive array of services and amenities include a formal dining area with exhibition kitchen, separate sports bar and grill for casual dining, as well as a coffee shop. The comprehensive Wellness Center includes a full-service salon and spa, business center, aquatic and fitness center, a Wintergarden atrium and an outdoor summer garden, as well as flexible gathering space.
The lakefront site, the covered arcade and outdoor garden which links the lifestyle center emphasize a harmony with nature and the client’s holistic approach to wellness.
