With a major gift from businessman S. Donald Sussman, Miami Jewish Health kicked off a major campus expansion with a new parking garage which will make way for the new EmpathiCare Village, a memory care community loosely modeled after the Hogewey Community in Holland.
The overarching theme is to provide a secure, therapeutic environment for residents with dementia by creating a secured “village.” The residential households surround individualized courtyard spaces emphasizing the indoor/outdoor therapeutic connections by providing cultural, social, and therapeutic wellness spaces. This stimulating, yet secure environment encourages more natural patterns of daily living for residents, their families, and caregivers as they move throughout the day from the households to the various amenities.
