Altenheim Senior Living launched construction of its new Memory Assisted Living and Therapy Rehab Center additions with an elaborate groundbreaking ceremony on June 20, honoring those with Alzheimer’s disease and their families as part of the Alzheimer’s Associations The Longest Day.
The new Shurmer Place Memory Assisted Living and Altenheim Therapy Rehab Center expand the care options for the community that has been catering to seniors and the greater community for nearly 125 years.
Designed according to Planetree Principles, both additions represent the highest level of achievement in person-centered care and design to achieve optimal mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing of residents, families and staff.
A core component of this progressive approach is aligning operations and design with Planetree Values that put the resident’s needs first and remove the barriers between patients, families, and caregivers to offer opportunities for more meaningful and engaging care.

Inspired by Altenheim’s Germanic roots, c.c. hodgson architectural group designed the new additions in the manner of an alpine lodge with such iconic elements as a gabled roof, shake shingles, rustic wood, and expansive windows to create a strong identity and connection to the community.
