The major repositioning of Friendship Village of South Hills, Upper St. Clair, Pa., is featured in the spring 2016 issue of Environments for Aging’s annual Design Showcase. The master plan to reposition this Lifespace Community centered around a Charrette that engaged 30 participants representing residents and staff. The first phase included substantial renovation to create a new bistro, library, media center and fitness center, expanded multiple dining options, updated and enlarged kitchen, new porte cochere entrance, and construction of a new St. Clair auditorium.
The design team included c.c. hodgson architectural group as the architect and master planner, Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. as the construction manager, Saxton Inc. as interior designer and procurement firm, and Rippe Associations as foodservice designer.
Now in its 20th year, the Design Showcase highlights projects that address design issues and trends related to the needs of the entire aging population. Nearly 50 projects were submitted for consideration and were reviewed by the 20-person jury that included architects, designers, providers, and consultants.
